Highly-refined products (HRP) including Glucosamine, Chondroitin and Chitosan
Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2016/759 establishes new import conditions for the following highly-refined products:
The Regulation (CIR (EU) 2016/759) lays down the third country lists from which these products may be imported and also the health certificate which must accompany each consignment intended for import or transit.
Details of the approved third countries are laid down part VII of Annex I. The third country list varies according to the species of origin. Material of ungulate origin, (e.g. bovine origin), can come from countries listed elsewhere in the legislation for meat of ungulates but also South Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan and Taiwan. Likewise material derived from poultry can come from countries listed for poultry meat and material derived from fishery products can come from countries listed for fishery products.
Each consignment must be accompanied by an original health certificate in the format laid down in the Regulation, issued by the government of the exporting country.
As these highly-refined products are for human consumption, the raw materials used to manufacture the HRP must be food grade, specifically they must be from animals, including feathers thereof, which have been slaughtered in a slaughterhouse and whose carcasses have been found fit for human consumption following ante-mortem and post-mortem inspection or from approved fishery products establishments.
Under no circumstances may the raw material have been handled in an animal by-products premises at any time.
