New Brexit helpline for traders and hauliers 

A new cross-Government telephone helpline launched this week, specifically for UK traders and hauliers exporting to and importing from the EU. The helpline will provide up-to-date signposting and guidance on arrangements for goods crossing the UK / EU border after Brexit, through a single point of enquiry. The helpline will cover issues such as:

  • Requirements of the trader (e.g. customs declarations, export health certificates, controlled goods licenses/permits).
  • Requirements of the haulier (e.g. trailer registrations, international driving permits).
  • Other pre-requisites to trade (e.g. Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number).
  • Import easements (e.g. Transitional Simplified Procedures).

The helpline launched on Monday 16 September and lines are open 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday. The number to call is 0300 3301 331.

DEFRA and HMRC have produced the attached decision trees for traders.

Nationwide government events launched to help businesses get ready for Brexit

Local businesses across the UK will receive tailored advice and support on preparing for Brexit on 31 October, as part of a series of nationwide events led by government. The free events will combine a keynote address from senior government officials, advice stands and in-depth sessions to give businesses the information they need to get ready for Brexit

  • New Brexit Business Readiness Events Roadshow gets underway as part of the ‘Get Ready for Brexit’ campaign
  • Advisors from all relevant government departments will be at each event to provide practical advice and support to local businesses
  • Over 30 events spanning the UK will run for five weeks
