Sesame Seeds from India
Additional import requirements for Sesame Seeds from India – 26th October 2020. Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/1540 amends Annex II of Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/1793. The amendment relates specifically to consignments of Sesamum seeds originating from India. Additional requirements- The official certificate that accompanies each consignment of sesame seeds originating in or consigned from India will need to state that the consignment has been sampled and analysed for salmonella and for residues of pesticides, and that all results of sampling and analysis show compliance with EU legislation. The results of sampling and analysis should be attached to the official certificate. This requirement applies to all consignments that left the country of origin (India) or the country of dispatch (if not India) on or after 26th October 2020.
- In addition to testing for Salmonella, 50% of consignments will need to be sampled and tested for pesticide residues (including ethylene oxide) at the point of import. This requirement applies to all consignments arriving on or after 26th October 2020. This is because high levels of contamination with ethylene oxide have been detected in previous imports, and this constitutes a serious risk to human health.
